The European Federation of Crohn's & Ulcerative Colitis Associations (EFCCA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). This section offers a variety of initiatives designed to support both our members and the broader IBD community. These include educational programs, informative publications, advocacy tools and active participation in European research projects. Through these efforts, EFCCA strives to empower individuals, promote awareness, and drive positive change for everyone impacted by IBD.
EFCCA
Academy
The Academy was launched in 2018 to provide specialised training for people with IBD, enabling them to raise awareness on specific topics and become advocates for their IBD patient community. Academy-qualified patients will become trainers of trainers within their own local communities. Training typically takes place online as well as through face-to-face workshops.
The Academy develops partnerships within the IBD healthcare professional (HCP) community, including organisations such as ECCO, UEG, ESPGHAN, and EMA. Cooperation may involve developing topics covering guidelines (basics), nutrition, medications, communication with patients (both adult and paediatric), navigating the healthcare system, delivering the patient community’s message to pharmaceutical companies, engaging with pharma representatives, and raising awareness that IBD is an invisible illness.
DIVA
Data Insights for added therapeutic VAlue
EFCCA´s new working methodology aims to identify and address the real needs of patients with Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, also collectively known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
The working methodology is based on the concept of analysing and interpreting scientific data in order to improve therapeutic outcomes. EFCCA’s approach is called DIVA (Data Insights for Added therapeutic VAlue) which will make use of publicly available data as well as internal EFCCA data to analyse and interpret the IBD patient communities’ unmet needs.
DIVA will also provide harmonised opinions and recommendations to stakeholders such as regulators, policy makers, pharmaceutical industries and healthcare professionals. At EFCCA we believe that the patient should be the starting point in the diagnosis and treatment of IBD.
