Survey on couples with IBD and their offspring

IBD and parenthood.
Survey on couples with IBD and their offspring.

Although the cause of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) remains unknown, it is well recognised that a positive family history of the disease remains the strongest risk factor for developing IBD.
EFCCA believes that more studies into this matter are essential and we are therefore keen to support the survey on "The phenotypic features of couples with IBD and their offspring"  which is being carried out by Dr Joana Torres from the Gastroenterology Department at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (Portugal) with the support of the European Crohn and Colitis Organization.

Getting more insight into disease features in this high-risk population may allow us to understand a little more about the disease and to improve pre-conception counseling.

The survey has been available in English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish and was closed in December 2019.

The results of the survey have been published in the Annals of Gastroenterology in February 2021.
