EFCCA organised the conference "IBD Dialogues: Building Generations" held on 22 February at the ECCO'24 Congress in Stockholm presenting the preliminary results of our study on people with IBD aged +60, which EFCCA carried out together with Leiden University Medical Center.
For EFCCA this was a milestone event, as - for the first time in our history - we have been officially included in the scientific programme showcasing our close collaboration with ECCO and highlighting the active involvement of patients working hand in hand with Health Care Professionals.
The meeting, which gathered over 100 representatives from the patient community, Health Care Providers, scientists and industries, was opened by ECCO President Prof. Dr. Britta Siegmund and EFCCA Chairperson Salvo Leone, setting a tone of collaboration and commitment.
Prof. Alessandro Armuzzi from the ECCO board shared insights into his organisation's dedicated focus on IBD across the ages. This was followed by the presentation of the preliminary results of the survey on people with IBD aged +60, presented by Isabella Haaf, EFCCA, and Anne B. Fons from Leiden University Medical Center.
The heart of the conference lay in its panel discussion, moderated by EFCCA's Vice President and Honorary Secretary, Ciara Drohan. Diverse perspectives emerged from panelists including patient representatives Daniel Sundstein and Raffaele Campanella, alongside with Claudia Savini, the survey coordinator, Prof. Armuzzi and MD Anne B. Fons, presenting the physicians' perspectives. Their combined perspectives emphasised the crucial importance of partnership between patients and healthcare providers in improving not only IBD care but also the quality of life of people with IBD.
